This is a good book that is classified as a Science fiction children's fiction book. It was first published in 1962. In 1963 it won the Newbery Medal.
I love this book and have since I first read it in 7th grade. I was required to read it in school and am glad that this is one of the few assigned books that I actually read. I have recently reread it and it is still amazing.
This is a story of three odd children that go on an intergalactic adventure. They meet unusual creatures, both good and bad, they see new planets, they travel impossibly by a way that is called Tessering which is basically taking a short cut through space using the 5th dimension.
This book, although for children, has complex scientific ideas, quotes in many different languages, complex philosophical problems, and themes of good verses evil, the power of love, and works in religion as well. Even though it is complex and many thought that it would be too difficult for young readers to comprehend, it has remained a popular and loved story by children and adults alike for 50 years.
I think it tells a great story that strains your imagination requiring you to rethink ideas and consider new concepts. This is and I believe always shall be one of my favorites not only in its own genre but overall.
I give this book a five star rating out of five.
