Ishmael: An adventure of the mind and spirit by Daniel Quinn ★★★★☆

This is a very interesting book. It mixes elements of story-telling along with philosophical discussions and thought provoking ideas. I, as an avid thinker, loved the deep thought parts of the book that make you stop and think about our society and of those around us, in history and today. It shows us that there are connections to be made and things we could, and should change not only about ourselves but our culture as well.
It is not a feel good story, it is an analytical one. I really loved it but for those of you looking for an easy read or a good story this is not a book for you. It will make you think, and it will challenge ideas that culture has struggled to put in our minds.
It does involve some fantasy genre type things, like a talking gorilla named Ishmael, but overall it is more about accepted beliefs and thinking outside the box.
I give this book a 4 star rating.
I would suggest just to get it from the library, I don't think it is really a read over kind of book. You may want to buy it though so you can highlight and make notes in it on some of the more challenging ideas.
